What we collect
- Account details — your email address and a password (used only to sign you in), and your confirmation that you're an adult and agree to our conduct rules.
- Your profile — your name, an optional photo and short intro, and the interests and details you choose to add ("about-me" facts). You decide what to share; you can edit or remove any of it at any time.
- Connections & messages — the introductions you send or receive and the messages you exchange in the app. Messages are visible to you and the person you're talking with.
- Events — the events you host or join (you join an event with a code). The event's location is a place the host enters, not your device location.
- Basic device & usage data — a push-notification token (so we can alert you to new introductions and messages) and standard technical information needed to run the app reliably.
What we do not collect
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't collect your device location.
- We don't use your microphone or record audio.
How we use it
- To introduce you to people you're likely to enjoy meeting, and to suggest good conversation openers.
- To deliver your messages and notify you about introductions, replies, and event activity.
- To run events you host or join.
- To keep the community safe — reviewing flagged messages, enforcing our guidelines, and acting on blocks and reports.
Who can see your information
Other members can see your profile and the details you choose to add, and can be introduced to you. People you're matched or connected with can see your name, photo, shared interests, and your messages to them. We share information with service providers who help us run the app (such as hosting and push-notification delivery) only as needed to provide the service, and we may disclose information if required by law or to protect people's safety.
Keeping the community safe
To protect people from scams, harassment, and abuse, we use automated tools and, where a message is flagged, human review to check messages sent through Little Lights. Flagged messages may be reviewed by our team and retained as needed to investigate violations, enforce our Community Guidelines, and comply with law. Accounts that break our rules may receive a warning, be suspended, or be removed; a suspended person can appeal from within the app. This processing is necessary to operate a safe service.
AI and automated processing
Some features use AI, run by trusted providers that process content on our behalf (never for their own advertising):
- Safety — messages are screened for scams, harassment, and abuse, and any photo you add is screened for explicit content before it can appear. This uses AI services from Anthropic (text) and Google Cloud Vision (images).
- Better introductions — when you add an interest in your own words, we use Anthropic to match it to a topic so we can introduce you well. Your own wording always stays on your profile.
Learning from your messages (optional)
You can choose to let Little Lights suggest profile interests based on things you say about yourself in your own messages. This is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off any time in Settings. When it's on, we look only at your own messages (never the other person's, and never the in-app "deep question" prompts), we skip anything sensitive, and nothing is added to your profile without your explicit confirmation.
Meeting people in real life
Little Lights can lead to meeting someone in person — at a hosted event, or because the two of you arranged it yourselves. We don't match people by location. Meeting anyone new carries risk. We provide safety tools (blocking, reporting) but we don't conduct background checks, and we can't guarantee anyone's identity or conduct. Please use good judgment — see our Community Guidelines.
This website
Our website (littlelights.fun) uses Google Analytics and the Meta pixel so we can see how many people visit, which ad or link brought them, and how many go on to the App Store or Google Play. These set cookies in your browser and share that activity with Google and Meta, who may use it to measure and target advertising. They do not receive your name, email, or anything from inside the app.
The app itself carries no advertising or analytics trackers of this kind — this applies to the website only. You can block it with your browser's tracking protection, Google's opt-out add-on, or your Meta ad settings.
Your choices & rights
- Edit or remove any profile detail, photo, or your intro at any time.
- Turn discoverability on or off, and control notifications from your device settings.
- Block or report anyone.
- Delete your account, which removes your profile from the app. Ask us anytime at josh@arealhumanbeing.co.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data; contact us to exercise them.
Children
Little Lights is for adults (18+). It is not for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
